23 new district representatives are elected today. However, there will not be a final result due to the record number of votes on Sunday. Read all about the election.
After months of election campaigning, Vienna will elect a new municipal council and 23 new district representatives on Sunday. The polling stations have been open since 7 am. The Viennese can vote until 5 pm. Due to the corona pandemic, the election will take place this year under strict hygiene regulations.
If you want to vote, this time you have to bring a few things with you to the polling station. For example, not only an official photo ID that confirms your identity is needed, but also your own mask and a ballpoint pen.
Likewise some voters were assigned new districts or places to cast the ballots: In critical facilities such as hospitals or nursing homes, only people who live there may vote. Voters from outside were distributed to other districts. All polling stations with a size of less than 40 square meters were relocated.
Voting card record
However: Many will have already voted on this Sunday. Never before have there been so many people in Vienna who voted with a voting card. Experts expect that up to 40 percent of the votes cast will be postal votes. For this reason there will not yet be a final result on Sunday.
