In Austria, a new peak was reported with 1,346 new SARS-CoV-2 infections within 24 hours (as of 9:30 a.m.) on Wednesday. According to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior, the number of deaths related to Covid-19 increased by eleven to 872 in the same period. Of the 654 hospitalized, 43 more than on Tuesday, 112 required intensive care. The number of active cases also rose from 11,516 to 11,954.
A weekly comparison shows an increase of 25 percent, the number of deaths during this period rose by five percent and hospitalization by over 18 percent. The new infections are distributed among the federal states of Austria as follows: 402 in Vienna, 234 in Upper Austria, 184 in Tyrol, 139 were registered in Lower Austria. Salzburg reported 134, Vorarlberg 77, Carinthia 72 and Styria 62 positive PCR tests, 42 cases came from Burgenland.
Nearly 17,000 PCR tests were added within one day, the percentage of positively tested persons was thus 7.9 percent. 5,523 tests were reported in Vienna, the 402 new infections result in a positive percentage of 7.3 percent for the federal capital.
