The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior have reported 6,211 newly registered coronavirus cases (as of 9:30 a.m. today) within the last 24 hours. In addition, 690 new infections were reported for Lower Austria after they had not been transmitted the day before for technical reasons.

In total, 125,099 people have tested positive in Austria since the beginning of the pandemic. 2,584 people have to be treated in hospital because of the infection, 383 of them in intensive care. According to AGES, 1,169 people have died as a result of the infection.

AGES: 54,812 active cases
According to the figures of the AGES dashboard there are (as of yesterday, 14.00 hrs) 54,812 active coronavirus cases. The new dashboard recently replaced that of the Ministry of Health. This is significantly more active cases than the two ministries’ counting system, as convalescents are registered more slowly in the new system.

In addition, new cases are no longer assigned to the registration time, but to the date of laboratory diagnosis, which may have taken place days before. This makes the epidemic curve more accurate, but changes the number of newly reported infections, which was previously used as a parameter, but is still communicated by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health.

7-day incidence at 356
More meaningful, however, is the number of positively diagnosed cases over the past seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (7-day incidence), which is 356 (as of yesterday, 2 p.m.). According to federal states, Vorarlberg leads with 538, in Upper Austria the 7-day incidence has meanwhile risen to 479, while Tyrol holds at 448.
