In the decisive state of Pennsylvania he is already way ahead, gave himself confident of victory – but statesmanlike refrained from attacking his opponent Donald Trump.
The election thriller becomes more and more dramatic. On Friday evening (local time) President Donald Trump (74) issued a harsh warning to his democratic opponent. “Joe Biden should not wrongfully claim the office of president. The legal proceedings are just beginning!”
Hours later – at 11 p.m. local time – the ex-vice president appeared in front of the cameras in his home state of Delaware at the Chase Center in Wilmington together with his vice candidate Kamala Harris (56).
There was no victory speech there yet – but an unmistakable announcement to his opponent and to the Americans: “The numbers are clear. We are going to win this thing!”
He listed the states in which they are still counting, but in which he is leading. Above all Pennsylvania, where he is now ahead of Trump with more than 27,000 votes, and with 20 electors would get enough votes to exceed the required 270 votes.
Biden self-confident: “We will win more than 300 electors. That would be a small landslide victory. Because in total there are 538 of these electors who will ultimately vote on who will be the next president of the USA.
The Democrat addressed the situation in the country. The Corona crisis and the pain of the people who have lost family members. “More than 240,000 empty chairs at their desks.” And he promised to get to work immediately: “We can save many lives in the coming months.”
He did not mention a word to President Trump! He only once indirectly alluded to him and said that he knew that people wanted to stop the counting of votes.
