After there was a new record number of new infections in Austria on Saturday, the number of new cases on Sunday – as always on the weekend – has decreased significantly. 5,933 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours. The number of people who died as a result of Covid-19 rose by 34 to 1,411 compared to the previous day, and the number of patients in intensive care units also increased significantly – by 27 to 459.
2,992 SARS-CoV-2 infected persons had to be treated in hospital on Sunday – a total of 14 fewer than on Saturday. However, the number of patients in intensive care units has increased significantly. In a week-on-week comparison, the number of patients undergoing hospital treatment rose by 54 percent – 1,948 needed such treatment last Sunday.
For the first time, there were more than 60,000 actively infected people in Austria on Sunday – according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health, the total was 60,023. 153,153 people have tested positive since the beginning of the pandemic. 91,719 are considered to have recovered.
Within one week the number of deaths has risen by a quarter. Since last Sunday, 281 people have died throughout Austria as a result of a Covid-19 infection.
On Sunday – as on all previous weekends – it became apparent that significantly fewer test results were reported. The exact number of tests registered in the past 24 hours was not yet available from the Ministry of Health. However, the decrease could be seen in the number of new infections.
