In Germany, health authorities have reported 22,609 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours. This is a good 5,000 more cases than on Wednesday (17,561), according to information from the RKI on Thursday morning. Compared to the figure from a week ago, slightly more cases were reported.
Last Thursday, the number of new infections reported was 21,866. The peak was reached last Friday with 23,542 reported cases.
The RKI counts a total of 855,916 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of deaths related to the virus rose by 251 to a total of 13,370 by Thursday. The RKI estimates that around 562,700 people have now recovered. According to the RKI management report from Wednesday evening, the so-called seven-day R was 0.95 (previous day: 0.97). This means that 100 infected persons will mathematically infect another 95 people. The value reflects the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If the value is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection subsides.
