Because of the persistently high corona figures, Bavaria is again declaring a state of emergency on December 9. As in Baden-Württemberg, a night-time curfew has also been imposed in Bavaria for all cities and districts with an incidence of more than 200 new corona infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. In the fight against the corona pandemic, Bavaria is also banning the consumption of alcohol in the open air from Wednesday onwards.

Bavaria’s Minister-President Markus Söder had already indicated time and again in the past few days that he considers a tougher course to be necessary in view of the further increase in the number of new infections. Tougher steps are conceivable, for example in the area of schools and in the retail sector, but also tougher restrictions on the use of alcohol.

In many parts of Italy, on the other hand, the corona situation is gradually improving, which is why the strict corona restrictions were relaxed in several Italian regions on Sunday. Since Sunday, only the central Italian Apennine region of Abruzzo has been classified as a “red zone” with partial lockdown.

Meanwhile, the corona “model country” South Korea is once again tightening restrictions on public life in the capital Seoul due to increasing new infections. Now assemblies of more than 50 people are prohibited, the news agency Yonhap reported on Sunday. There are also stricter regulations for church services and school lessons, fitness studios and karaoke bars. These would apply at least until the end of the year, the news agency News1 reported.

For the third day in a row, the USA registered a new record number of new corona infections. According to the Johns Hopkins University, more than 230,000 new cases were registered within 24 hours of Saturday evening, around 5,000 more than the day before. The number of deaths within one day was 2,527. The USA is the country most severely affected by the pandemic worldwide. In total there were more than 14.6 million corona cases. More than 281,000 infected people died.
