In the USA, the corona virus continues to spread rapidly. On Tuesday, the authorities reported 215,586 new infections within one day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore. On the same day of the previous week, the figure was around 180,000, with the highest figure so far recorded on Friday with 227,800 cases.
The number of deaths recorded in one day remained high on Tuesday at 2,534, with the highest value of 2,879 recorded on Thursday. After the holiday Thanksgiving at the end of November and in view of Christmas, experts fear a nationwide increase in infections due to travel and family gatherings. According to the Covid Tracking Project, the number of Covid-19 patients in U.S. hospitals has exceeded the 100,000 threshold for the first time since the beginning of December.
The worst 7-day incidence value per 100,000 is currently in Rhode Island, where it is 846, and in Austria, where it is 242.
