The situation in intensive care units is slowly easing. Though death rate is still increasing.
Austria has no longer overcrowded intensive care units. But Chancellor Sebastian Kurz maintaned that the situation has not eased much. Chancellor Kurz justified the tightening late on Friday evening for the holidays.
The fact check shows: Intensive care unit utilization is falling, albeit slowly. Currently, 28.5 percent of beds are occupied, compared to 32.3 percent a week ago. However: Yesterday, the number of intensive care patients increased by 19.
Also on the rise is the number of covid deaths: Within 24 hours yesterday, 126 deaths were reported. In total, that’s 658 deaths in the past seven days. For every 100,000 people, 7.4 died from or with the virus.
While the number of newly infected people (3241) is now back in line with the European average, Austria is well ahead of Germany in terms of deaths per million inhabitants and also ahead of the USA, which is currently struggling with a wave after Thanksgiving. Medical experts therefore continue to urgently call for contact restrictions.
