The German Robert Koch Institute reported 16,362 new infections at the beginning of the week.
On Monday, the figures are usually lower because there is less testing and fewer tests are carried out over the weekend and less data is transmitted.
However, 4,030 fewer new infections were reported last Monday.

The seven-day incidence is reported to have risen to 176.4, moving further away from the goal of 50 that the federal and state governments are aiming for. The figure indicates how many people per 100,000 population become newly infected within seven days. Germany has more than 83 million inhabitants.
