Since December 18, 66,968 Viennese have taken advantage of the free CoV holiday testing offer. The city handled the largest rush to date on December 23 and 24. According to the city, there are currently many free dates for registration again.

On December 23 and 24 alone, 30,824 Viennese took a rapid antigen test at the Austria Center or at the test road near Ernst Happel Stadium. From December 18 to December 24, of the 66,968 rapid antigen tests performed, 127 were positive and were retested with a gargle test.

If rapid tests and PCR tests are added together, exactly 121,048 tests were performed in Vienna from December 18 to December 24. A total of 2,147 positive cases were found during the period. “Many people without symptoms also come to the rapid tests, while PCR tests are more targeted,” said a spokesperson for the crisis team, explaining the difference in cases found depending on the test method.

Many appointments available
The testing facilities at the Austria Center and at the test road near the Ernst Happel Stadium are also open to all Viennese after Christmas and can also be used several times. “Take advantage of the offer also after returning from the Christmas holidays, before and after New Year’s Eve and around the Orthodox Christmas,” said the crisis team.

Up to and including January 7, 2021, 105,590 Viennese have already booked an appointment, it said Friday. But there are, for example, from December 25 to next Sunday still 38,403 test dates free and bookable at any time. “We ask all Viennese to make sure to make use of these free test appointments before going back to work on Monday,” the crisis team said.

Most new infections were registered in the past 24 hours in Vienna with 391 cases. It was followed by Upper Austria with 369 and Lower Austria with 346 cases. 242 new infections were registered in Styria, 173 in Tyrol, 120 in Carinthia, 119 in Salzburg, 52 in Burgenland and 39 in Vorarlberg.
