Italy passes threshold of 75,000 deaths

Authorities on Sunday reported 347 more people have died in connection with Corona infection in the past 24 hours. The previous day, the number had been 364. This brought the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in Italy to 75,332.

The number of new infections registered within 24 hours rose from 11,831 to 14,245 on Sunday, with 102,974 tests performed. 13.8 percent of them were positive. The number of Covid-19 patients treated in hospitals rose from 22,948 to 23,075 people in 24 hours, the health ministry in Rome reported. The number of patients in intensive care units climbed from 2,569 to 2,583.

A total of 550,556 people in Italy are in home quarantine. Since the vaccination campaign began last Sunday, 84,730 people have been vaccinated.
