2,278 new infections with the coronavirus were reported across Austria within 24 hours on Saturday. Another 46 people died in connection with Covid-19, bringing the total number of Corona deaths to 6,687, according to figures released daily by the Interior and Health ministries. Per 100,000 population, there have been 75.1 SARS-CoV-2-related deaths in Austria so far.
Styria recorded the most covid deaths so far per 100,000 inhabitants, with a figure of 114.7 (absolute: 1,492 deaths). Vienna holds at 62.1 (absolute: 1,187) in this breakdown per 100,000 population, with only Lower Austria (55.7; absolute: 938) and Vorarlberg (57.4; absolute: 228) below.
The seven-day incidence among corona deaths nationwide is 4.6, which means that 4.6 people per 100,000 inhabitants died from the consequences of infection in the past week. In Styria, this figure is 8.0.
2,326 infected persons were undergoing hospital treatment, 1.9 percent less than on Friday. Of these, 369 patients were cared for in intensive care units, two fewer than the day before.
The number of current confirmed Corona cases increased slightly to 21,002 within 24 hours, and the seven-day incidence of new infections increased to 165.9, up from 156 on Friday. This refers to the number of new infections within a week per 100,000 population.
So far, there have been 379,071 registered cases in Austria since the pandemic began. Another 2,167 people have recovered, for a total of 351,382 now.
The highest number of new infections occurred in Upper Austria with 435, followed by Lower Austria (391), Vienna (339), Styria (298) and Salzburg (287). Carinthia registered 185 new cases, Tyrol 169, Vorarlberg 99 and Burgenland 75.
