Vienna police warn against corrosive acid on door locks after burglaries.
So far, unknown perpetrators have already committed several residential burglaries in Vienna by destroying the door lock with corrosive acid. Police are now warning against the new scam using extremely dangerous chemicals.
Door locks corroded during burglaries
The Vienna police are currently aware of around a dozen cases of burglary in which acid was infused into the cylinder lock of the entrance door, enabling the perpetrator or perpetrators to open the door. Investigations into the burglaries are ongoing.
Because this acid is corrosive and can lead to severe injuries, the police are now issuing a warning. If liquid is on the apartment door or door lock after a burglary, contact with the fluid must be avoided at all costs. The acid is corrosive to the skin, respiratory tract, and mucous membranes.
If accidental contact with the liquid occurs, the police advise that the affected area be neutralized immediately with water. However, do not use soap under any circumstances. It is also essential to call the police directly on 133.
