The second round of mass testing in Vienna will end today. The result: few people tookthe chance to be tested.
Today, Sunday, the second round of Corona mass testing ends in Vienna. Although the three test sites Stadthalle, Marxhalle and Messe Wien are still open until 11 p.m., it is already clear that far fewer people took advantage of the opportunity this time than during the first round in early December.
Just over 109,000 tests
The capacity in the mass tests this time was designed for 900,000 examinations. So far, as of 7:00 a.m., a total of 127,025 people have registered to take part – but that’s not counting those who spontaneously decide to get tested during the day today. This is possible at two of the three locations – Marxhalle and Messe Wien. By way of comparison, a total of 234,889 people took the free Corona Check during the mass test round one in December.
To date, a total of 109,014 rapid antigen tests have been performed at the three sites. Of these, 234, or 0.21 percent, indicated a positive result. However, the positive results were still verified by PCR testing, with no results available here for the time being.
281 new cases in Vienna
In total, 78,495 people have been confirmed to have been infected with coronavirus in Vienna since the start of the pandemic. In the past 24 hours, 281 new cases have been added, according to a release from the city’s medical crisis team on Sunday.
In addition, 1,294 deaths have been documented in the federal capital so far due to or as a result of Covid-19. Ten people died most recently. 73,510 people have overcome the disease and recovered.
