The announcement by retailers to sell the FFP2 masks, which will be mandatory in the future, starting today at a price of 59 cents each has led to quite a run at Spar, Rewe (Billa, Merkur, Penny, Bipa, Adeg) and Hofer, the retail companies announced Thursday in response to an APA inquiry. Partially already sold out, it was said by Spar and Rewe. At the same time, it was reassured that enough masks had been ordered.
Rewe had 5 million “Filtering Face Piece” masks of protection category 2 already with them, and another 15 million had been ordered, a Rewe spokesman said. “We have now adjusted the logistics and are continuously delivering masks to the stores,” Spar spokeswoman Nicole Berkmann said.
“We were set up to be well equipped from Monday, because that’s when the duty starts, and now the rush has overtaken us a bit,” Berkmann admitted. Customers could be sure, however, that basically enough masks were in stock. At Rewe, too, the masks are currently no longer available in some smaller stores. On the part of Hofer it was said that one could determine today as expected an increased demand of the FFP2 masks. For current delivery is already ensured.
