From Friday to Saturday, 1,626 new Corona infections were reported in Austria.
So far, there have been 403,512 positive test results in Austria. As of today (23 January 2021, 09:30), 7,389 people across Austria have died as a result of the Corona virus and 380,248 have recovered. Currently, 1,848 people are undergoing hospital treatment due to the Corona virus, and of these, 323 of the ill are in intensive care units.
One strategy against the virus is regular testing. As of Monday, there will be continuous test lanes in large parts of Austria. Meanwhile, retailers are responding to the immense demand for masks:
Around one million Austrians are likely to have already had a SARS-CoV-2 infection. “As early as the end of October 2019 about 4.7 percent of Austrians are likely to have undergone a SARS-CoV-2 infection. It is estimated that 60 percent of infections are asymptomatic. This means that more than one million Austrians have probably already been infected with SARS-CoV-2,” said the head of the Center for Virology at MedUni Vienna, Elisabeth Puchhammer.
