Nearly 25 million people in the U.S. have contracted the SARS CoV-2 virus since the CoV pandemic began a year ago. The number of virus-related deaths recorded so far rose to nearly 417,500, according to data released this morning by Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore.
The number of deaths within 24 hours most recently reached 3,332, with the previous peak in CoV deaths recorded on Jan. 12 at 4,462. Authorities also registered 172,650 new infections yesterday. The highest level was recorded on Jan. 2 at 298,031 new cases. The 7-day incidence in the country of about 330 million people is about 400.
The Johns Hopkins website is updated regularly and therefore shows a higher level than the official World Health Organization (WHO) figures. In some cases, the figures – including those for new infections within 24 hours, but also those for deaths – are updated retrospectively.
