Health offices in Germany have reported 10,580 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. In addition, 264 additional deaths were recorded within 24 hours. This is according to figures released by the RKI on Friday. Exactly a week ago, the RKI had recorded 9997 new infections and 394 new deaths within one day. The data reflect the status of the RKI dashboard as of 5:20 a.m., subsequent changes or additions are possible.

According to RKI calculations, the number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (seven-day incidence) was 65.4 nationwide on Friday morning – slightly higher than the previous day (64.7). Four weeks ago, on February 5, the incidence had been 79.9. Its previous high had been 197.6 on December 22.

The peak of 1244 newly reported deaths had been reached on January 14. For new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value of 33,777 had been reached on December 18 – but it included 3,500 subsequent reports.

The RKI counted 2,482,522 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic (as of March 5, 5:20 a.m.). The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI gave the number of those recovered as about 2,292,100. The total number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 71,504.

The nationwide seven-day R value was 0.99, up from 0.93 the previous day, according to Thursday’s RKI situation report. This means that 100 infected people mathematically infect 99 more people. The value represents in each case the infection occurrence 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the number of infections is decreasing; if it is continuously above 1, the number of cases is increasing.
