Not only the new infection numbers are “clearly on the rise”, also the high extent of utilization in the hospitals is “worrying”, health minister Rudolf Anschober showed up on Thursday in a press conference alarmed.
In the previous week, hospitals saw a 10 percent increase in Corona patients, and intensive care bed utilization increased by as much as 20 percent. This is a situation “like last October,” Anschober explained.
Three of the nine provinces – Lower Austria, Salzburg and Burgenland – are above 200 per 100,000 inhabitants in risk-adjusted 7-day incidence. Carinthia and Vienna are scraping that mark. This mark was set by the Commission last week as the level above which even the withdrawal of relaxations should be considered.
Only Vorarlberg has an incidence below 100 (76.5) – surely one of the reasons why the Corona traffic light will probably continue to flash orange in the state. However, if one takes a closer look at the trend paper of the Corona traffic light commission, it becomes apparent that the opening of restaurants as of March 15 in the westernmost federal state is on shaky ground.
The predicted 14-day trend shows an above-average increase, especially in the Großen and Kleinwalsertal. But the Corona trend is also pointing dangerously upward in some regions of Lower Austria.
