Starting Monday, Vorarlberg as a model region wants to open the gastronomy also in indoor areas, events up to 100 people should be possible again. Nationwide, children and young people are to be allowed to play sports outdoors again from March 15.
Against these plans speak the infection numbers. After already reaching nearly 3,000 new infections on Thursday, the 3,000 mark was surpassed for the first time in three months on Friday with 3,126 new infections. The 7-day incidence yesterday was 199.17.
In early February, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober cited an incidence of 200 as a clear upper limit above which the lockdown would have to be tightened again across Austria. On Monday, new talks of the government with experts, opposition and provincial governors are expected accordingly.
In any case, from yesterday to today, more than 3,000 new infections were again registered in Austria: 3,023 new cases were reported within 24 hours, plus 25 additional deaths related to Covid-19.
An increase in bed occupancy has also been recorded in hospitals.
Compared to the previous day, 18 more patients require care in normal wards, and another 12 require intensive care.
