Vienna saw an immense increase in Corona cases. More than 1,000 new infections were registered in just one day.
First information about the current information events show a shocking picture: The number of new infections in Vienna has reached four figures for the first time in months. Today, Wednesday, 1,080 new cases were confirmed.
According to the AGES dashboard, the 1,000 mark was last exceeded on November 24 (1,017 cases); since then, case numbers have been below that – until today.
After reaching a low at the end of January, the epidemiological curve also showed a steep upward trend in Vienna. The previous peak since then on March 10 and 11 of 895 and 928 corona cases, respectively, has now been shattered.
However, the 1,080 positive tests reported today also include 134 subsequent reports from previous days. But even if you subtract those, you’re still left with a huge increase.
Yesterday, Tuesday, 644 positive tests (62 subsequent reports) were reported, and Monday 484 positive tests (30 subsequent reports). Exactly one week ago, on March 10, the city counted 546 Corona cases, along with 22 follow-up reports.
As of today, Wednesday, 102,916 positive tests have been confirmed in Vienna since the pandemic began. The number of deaths related to the virus is 1,790 – ten people have lost their lives since the previous day. 93,765 people have recovered.
