Vienna. In light of the sometimes desperate situation in the retail sector, the trade association is calling for antibody tests at zero cost. With a three-month validity, this would offer a “concrete opening perspective”. After all, “hundreds of thousands” in Austria had already survived an infection or had been vaccinated. The PCR and antigen rapid tests are “useful”, but are valid for too short a time “to lead a halfway ‘normal life'”. That’s because people would have to get tested three to four times a week.

“Fortunately, the number of Corona vaccinated as well as recovered is increasing day by day. High time that we reflect this development also in the test strategy accordingly. The trade association therefore demands the immediate introduction of a free neutralizing antibody test for the entire population. These tests are currently valid for 3 months and would therefore not only massively relieve the antigen/PCR test lines, but also facilitate access tests for body-related services and possibly soon also for gastronomy – should access tests actually come in these areas as well. Moreover, antibody testing could reduce the number of occupational group tests required and the associated administrative burden. Each positive antibody test saves up to 50 antigen tests per person. Everyone would benefit from this,” says Handelsverband Managing Director Rainer Will in a statement.
