Italy has set a vaccination record in the fight against the coronavirus: More than 600,000 vaccine doses were administered yesterday, authorities have now announced. In terms of the total number of people fully vaccinated, Italy now ranks second in the EU behind Germany, with 12.7 million immunized. This corresponds to almost 24 percent of those over the age of 12 in Italy. In total, more than 37 million vaccine doses have now been administered nationwide, according to the data.
Hundreds of new vaccination centers had opened in Italy in recent months. There are now 2,666 such facilities, up from 1,500 at the beginning of March, and around 800 more centers are expected to be added in the coming weeks.
The number of infections and deaths in Italy has been falling steadily in recent weeks. Overall, the country has recorded nearly 126,500 deaths related to Covid 19 disease since the pandemic began. Circulations in Italy have recently been further eased.
