Italy is lifting the mandatory wearing of masks outdoors tomorrow, as well as the last regional curfew still in place. Across the country, the requirement to wear a face mask will now only apply indoors in public spaces and in high traffic areas in the open air. In the northwestern Aosta Valley, the nighttime curfew between midnight and 5 a.m. is also being dropped.
Last spring, Italy became the first European country to experience a high incidence of coronavirus. Overall, Italy (population 60 million) is one of the most pandemic-affected countries in the world, with more than 4.25 million confirmed infections and more than 127,000 deaths.
Recently, infection and death rates had fallen sharply. However, the more contagious delta variant of the virus is currently spreading in Italy as well.
