Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has been tested positive for the corona virus after the EU summit in Brussels. This was announced by the Luxembourg government on Sunday evening (Jun. 27). The 48-year-old has mild symptoms such as fever and headache, but will continue his work from home. Ten days of quarantine are planned. At the summit, Bettel was in contact with many other European leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel. According to his own statements, he has been vaccinated once so far. He should have received his second vaccination this week.
Thousands protested in London on Saturday (6/26) against the British government’s Corona rules, calling for their immediate repeal. The crowd marched from Hyde Park through Oxford Street shopping street to Parliament. There, some participants threw tennis balls with critical and insulting inscriptions over the fences. Posters criticized and ridiculed mouth-nose masks or Corona vaccinations. Few participants adhered to mask and spacing rules. Because of the spread of the delta variant, the government had postponed the lifting of all Corona measures planned for June 21 by four weeks.
Due to the increase in new infections in Australia, New Zealand has suspended quarantine-free travel between the two countries for the time being. The rule will initially be in effect for three days beginning Saturday evening (6/26), the Ministry of Health announced. The Netherlands has taken a big step back to public life with almost no Corona restrictions. Almost all measures introduced in the wake of the pandemic have been lifted again since Saturday (6/26). The mask requirement now only applies on public transport and in testing and vaccination centers. More than 50 percent of the population has received at least one vaccination dose. Almost one in three is fully vaccinated.
