Sydney extends lockdown measures again over delta variant
Australian authorities have extended the lockdown in Sydney for another week due to new cases of infection with the delta variant of the corona virus. This is the “best chance to ensure this remains the only lockdown until the vast majority of our citizens are vaccinated,” New South Wales regional government chief Gladys Berejiklian said Wednesday. The state’s largest city had previously recorded 27 new Corona infections. For two weeks, Sydney residents are now already allowed to leave their homes only for a valid reason. The measure has been extended for now until July 16. “The Delta variant changes everything, it is extremely transmissible,” Berejiklian justified the step.
