More vaccine has been delivered to Austria than ordered. 1.3 million doses are in interim storage, waiting to be vaccinated.
More than 9.5 million doses have been delivered to Austria since vaccine deliveries from the EU quota began. However, only 8.2 million have been ordered by the vaccination centers. The question arises: what happened to the remaining 1.3 million doses? “They have already been distributed to the intermediate storage facilities in the federal states and are waiting to be called off,” the Ministry of Health announced. The provinces would only call off vaccine doses if appointments for the vaccinations were booked or vaccination campaigns were pending. One of these is taking place this week in Vienna. There, people can get vaccinated at the Austria Center without booking in advance or making an appointment. Begs the further question: why aren’t more vaccination appointments being given?
One thing is clear: in contrast to the spring, there is now actually more vaccine available than there are people willing to be vaccinated. Another 350,000 doses will be added by the end of the week.
