In the past 24 hours (as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday), 367 new Corona infections have been registered in Austria, the fifth-highest figure in July, after the maximum of 452 infections last Thursday. Exactly one month ago, there had been 70 new infections, according to figures from the Ministry of Interior and Health. At the same time, 25,449 vaccinations were given nationwide. This means that 5,247,185 people have received at least a partial vaccination.

According to data from the E-vaccination passport, 58.7 percent of the population nationwide is partially vaccinated – 4,383,514 people (49.1 percent) are fully immunized.

Hospital occupancy of Covid patients has risen slightly again after a steady downward trend last week (99 patients on Sunday), with 121 patients currently on the list, as has the number of severe cases: 40 patients are in intensive care units. Five deaths were reported on Monday – the most since July 6. In total, the pandemic has claimed 10,737 lives in Austria since it broke out. 641,541 people have recovered since the pandemic began, and 319 people were considered healthy again within the past 24 hours.

The seven-day incidence in Austria was 29.5 cases per 100,000 population. New infections in the past 24 hours by province were Burgenland 10, Carinthia 30, Lower Austria 43, Upper Austria 52, Salzburg 52, Styria 39, Tyrol 52, Vorarlberg 15, and Vienna 74. As of Monday, there were a total of 4,671 active cases in Austria, 917 more than exactly one week ago.

A total of 470,844 PCR and rapid antigen tests were performed in the past 24 hours. Of these, 65,150 were PCR tests. The positive rate of PCR tests was 0.56 percent. This 24-hour figure is below last week’s average of 0.6 percent. Overall, a slight trend away from antigen to PCR testing can be seen over the past week.
