From Sunday to Monday, there were 450 new Corona infections in Austria. This is less than the average number of new cases per day last week – 523 – but a high number for a Monday. Especially at the beginning of the week, the number of new infections is usually significantly lower than during the rest of the week. These 450 new infections are the highest Monday figure since May 17. At that time, there were 476 infections in 24 hours.
Compared with the previous week (364 cases), new infections increased by 86 cases. The 7-day incidence increased to 41.12.
In addition, there are no new deaths associated with Covid-19 infection, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 10,750 so far. The number of active cases rises to 6,297 with 342 new cases recovered.
In the past 24 hours, 34,510 new PCR tests have been performed, bringing the positive rate to 1.30 percent.
There are currently 162 patients in Austrian hospitals, 16 more than the previous day. In the intensive care units, there are currently 38 patients, which is also two patients less than the previous day.
Vaccination progress continues to be slow: 23,463 vaccinations were administered on Sunday. In total, 5,353,267 people have already received at least a partial vaccination, according to E-vaccine passport data: That’s 59.9 percent of the population. Exactly 4,842,208 people, or 54.2 percent of Austrians, are already fully immunized.
The highest initial vaccination rate is in Burgenland with 67.4 percent. In Lower Austria, 62.8 percent of the population has been vaccinated at least once, and in Styria, 60.5 percent. After Tyrol (59.3), Vorarlberg (58.1), Vienna (58), Carinthia (56.4) and Salzburg (56.2), Upper Austria brings up the rear with a vaccination coverage rate of 55.6 percent.
