“We are running into the fourth wave,” said the president of intensive care physicians, Walter Hasibeder, in view of more than 900 new infections in an interview published by the Austrian newspaper KURIER yesterday.
And also from Wednesday to Thursday, the new infection figures continued to rise. 850 new Corona infections were officially registered this time. From the interim low with a 7-day incidence of 6, the long-term value thus rose to over 50 for the first time since May 22.
In addition, there is one new death related to Covid-19 infection, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 10,753 so far. The number of active cases rises to 7,249.
In the past 24 hours, 60,154 PCR tests have been performed – the same as the average over the past seven days.
In Austria’s hospitals are currently 203 people in connection with a Covid disease (previous day: 197), 51 patients are in an intensive care unit – that is three more than the day before.
Among the provinces, Salzburg is currently particularly affected. Here, the 7-day incidence of 70 is significantly above the Austrian average.
As of Wednesday, more than 10 million vaccine doses have been administered in Austria. 5,371,954 people (60.14% of the total population) have received at least one Corona vaccination, of which 4,926,407 people (55.15%) have complete vaccination protection.
