In the past 24 hours, 866 new infections were registered throughout Austria. The number of Covid 19 patients requiring treatment in hospitals has also risen again. Now 270 people are already in hospitals – 20 more than on Monday. Meanwhile, the threshold of five million fully immunized people has been exceeded.
The 866 new infections are just below the average of the past seven days, with 891 more infected people added daily. The seven-day incidence has risen again, amounting to 69.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Tuesday. Now there are already 9,207 active cases in Austria, up by 323 from Monday.
Number of hospital patients increased by 53 percent
Within the past week, the number of hospital patients has increased by 53 percent. While 176 Covid-19 infected patients required hospital treatment last Tuesday, the number has now risen to 270. Most of them – 87 – are being treated in Viennese hospitals. Across Austria, 61 seriously ill patients were in intensive care units Tuesday, up two from Monday and up 21 from last Tuesday.
There have already been 670,372 positive SARS-CoV-2 tests in Austria since the pandemic began. A total of 650,408 people are considered recovered. The number of deaths have remained the same since Monday, so far 10,757 people have already died in Austria as a result of coronavirus infection. Per 100,000 inhabitants this is 120.4 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.
A total of 392,049 PCR and rapid antigen tests were reported in the past 24 hours. Of these, 67,458 were conclusive PCR tests, and the positive rate was 1.3 percent. More than 90 million SARS-CoV-2 tests have already been performed in Austria since the start of the pandemic.
