The number of new infections continues to rise. From Thursday to Friday, 1,602 new Corona infections were registered in Austria. This represents a peak in the fourth wave. The last time so many new cases were registered within 24 hours was in early May.
There are also four new deaths related to Covid 19 infection to report, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 10,776 so far. The number of active cases increases by 617 to 14,449. The seven-day incidence rises to 102.71.
The rising numbers are also making themselves felt in hospitals: Austria’s hospitals currently have 420 people associated with covid disease, up five from the previous day. 104 patients are in intensive care – nine more than the day before.
In the past 24 hours, 67,143 PCR tests have been performed, with a positive rate of 2.39 percent.
