France now has compulsory vaccination against the corona virus for certain professional groups. Failure to comply could result in suspension without continued payment of wages. At least the first vaccination must now be given to employees working in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as firefighters, civil defense workers and gendarmerie officers. Those who have previously received only the first vaccination dose must also present a negative test at work until they have full vaccination protection. Employees are explicitly allowed to schedule their vaccination appointments during working hours to facilitate vaccination, it said.
The tightened Corona rules, which include mandatory vaccination for certain professions, had sparked large protests in France since the summer, with tens of thousands also taking to the streets last weekend. Suspension from the suspension can be obtained by those affected if they take days off or vacation. Once they receive the vaccination, the sanction also ends, authorities stressed. Dismissal for lack of Corona vaccination is not possible, they said.
The rate of fully vaccinated health workers was already between 84 and 91 percent last week. It is not known how many employees actually face sanctions because they have not yet received their first dose.
The French newspaper “Le Monde” reported, with reference to the management of several large clinics, that a vaccination rate of 95 percent had already been reached there. Nevertheless, problems are feared if, in view of the already strained staffing levels, hospital personnel have to be sent home because of a lack of vaccination. In certain functions, it is very difficult to replace staff, explained the Association of University Hospitals in France. The federation of trade unions, which is against compulsory vaccination, also fears difficulties in the operation of hospitals, wrote “Le Monde”.
