At noon Wednesday, the six-billion mark of corona vaccine doses administered worldwide was cracked. Only three countries are not vaccinating at all so far.
Six billion Corona vaccine doses have now been administered worldwide. The mark was reached at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to AFP news agency statistics based on official data.
Most vaccine doses administered in China, India and U.S.
The vaccination pace has steadied, according to the report: It took 29 days to reach the sixth billion, with the fourth and fifth taking 30 and 26 days, respectively. Nearly 40 percent of all vaccine doses were injected in China, followed by India and the U.S. in second and third place.
Among countries with a population of more than one million, the United Arab Emirates leads the statistics with 198 doses per 100 inhabitants, and more than 81 percent of citizens there are already fully immunized. While most poor countries have now also launched vaccination campaigns thanks to the international Covax initiative, vaccine distribution remains highly uneven. High-income countries have administered an average of 124 doses per 100 inhabitants, while poor countries have so far been injected with an average of only four doses per 100 inhabitants. Three countries are not yet vaccinating against coronavirus at all: Burundi, Eritrea and North Korea.
