Booster vaccinations against the coronavirushas been approved by the EU on Monday. For whom the 3rd prick is particularly important.
The European Medicines Agency will announced its recommendation for booster vaccination against Corona on Monday. In Austria, the National Vaccination Panel has already presented initial guidelines for booster vaccination.
According to these, the vaccination panel recommends that older persons and high-risk groups receive another shot after only six to nine months. A booster in this period is particularly important for those persons whose vaccination protection is weakening.
Infectiologist Herwig Kollaritsch, who is also a member of the National Vaccination Panel, explained to Ö1-Frühjournal: “These are all residents of old people’s and nursing homes, all persons aged 65 and over, and persons who have received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.”
For people who have been vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, a rapid booster is also recommended. And especially for people with pre-existing conditions. The vaccination committee suggests a further vaccination for persons vaccinated with Johnson already after 28 days.
People in the health sector or in schools and kindergartens should also receive a booster after six to nine months, reports Ö1.
“All other people should then be offered another vaccination after nine to twelve months,” Kollaritsch further clarifies in the report. In general, however, there is protection of a severe course of corona disease even without a booster vaccination.
With a booster vaccination this protection is strengthened however again, it is further stated. This is particularly important for people with a weakened immune system.
