The number of corona deaths in the United Kingdom has risen to its highest level since March. The UK Statistics Authority reported 223 deaths on Tuesday (Oct. 19), according to the German Press Agency. So far, the British government is not considering reintroducing corona restrictions. In England, mandatory masking indoors or proof-of-vaccination or testing rules have been the exception since “Freedom Day” in July. Nearly 79 percent of vaccine-eligible citizens aged 12 and older are fully vaccinated.

Following relaxations of Corona measures, the Netherlands has seen a sharp increase in Corona infections. In the past seven days, the number of new infections increased by 44 percent compared to the previous week, as the responsible National Institute for Health and the Environment announced on Tuesday (Oct. 19), according to the German Press Agency. The authority sees a direct connection with the relaxation of the measures about three weeks ago. At that time, the distance rule of 1.5 meters had been lifted, mask wearing limited to public transport.

Faced with new highs in the death toll, the Russian capital Moscow is introducing new restrictions. Unvaccinated people over the age of 60 and Muscovites with chronic illnesses would have to stay home for four months starting next Monday, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his blog Tuesday (Oct. 19), according to the German Press Agency. During that time, at least 30 percent of employees in companies would also have to switch to home offices. This Wednesday, President Vladimir Putin also plans to speak about the tense situation. Official statistics on Tuesday showed more deaths than ever before. Several regions have already introduced restrictions one, including St. Petersburg.
