The high value of new infections yesterday was not an outlier upwards , as Thursday’s data show: From yesterday to today, 3,648 new Corona infections were registered in Austria. This is above the seven-day average of 2,705.

There are also 11 new deaths related to Covid 19 infection to report, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 11,220 so far. The number of active cases rises to 26,490, with a seven-day incidence of 212 across Austria.

Despite the sharp rise in numbers, the situation in Austria’s hospitals remains relatively stable for the time being: 962 people are currently in Austria’s hospitals in connection with a covid illness, which is ten more than the previous day. 214 patients are in intensive care, four fewer than the day before.

Vaccinations
As for vaccination progress, it continues to be very slow. As of yesterday (Wednesday), 11,444 Corona vaccinations had been administered. In total, 5,828,541 people in Austria have received at least one partial vaccination, according to E-vaccination passport data. That is 65.2 percent of the population. 5,540,036 people (62 percent of Austrians) are fully immunized.

A look at full immunization rates by age group shows the following situation: among those aged 12 to 24, 51.6 percent are fully immunized; in the 25 to 34 age group, the rate is 60.4 percent; and among those aged 35 to 44, 65.9 percent. 70.1 percent of people ages 45 to 54 are fully protected against Covid-19, and 78.7 percent in the 55 to 64 group. Those ages 65 to 74 have a full immunization rate of 83.9 percent, those ages 75 to 84 have 88.7 percent and the 85-plus group has 88.9 percent.

The highest vaccination coverage rate (fully immunized) is in Burgenland, at 69.5 percent. In Lower Austria, 64.8 percent of the population is vaccinated, and in Styria, 62.7 percent. After Vienna (61.1), Vorarlberg (61), Tyrol (60.2), Carinthia (58.6) and Salzburg (58.3), Upper Austria brings up the rear with a vaccination coverage rate of 57 percent.
