After around 3,500 new infections were registered daily in the previous week, the situation has eased only slightly. From Monday to Tuesday, 3,369 new Corona infections were registered in Austria. This is above the average of the past seven days of 3,508. The seven-day incidence is 275.88
There are also 18 new deaths related to Covid 19 infection to report, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 11,279 so far. The number of active cases rises to 33,210.
In the past 24 hours, 125,794 PCR tests have been performed, with a positive rate of 2.68 percent.
Hospital numbers also continue to rise. On Tuesday, 1,168 people were in domestic hospitals with Corona disease. Of them, 244 patients were being cared for in intensive care units, an increase of 12 in the past 24 hours.
Vaccination campaign
Exceedingly slow continues the vaccination campaign. As of Monday, 8,006 vaccinations had been administered. According to E-vaccine passport data, 5,857,926 have received at least a partial vaccination: That’s 65.6 percent of the population. 5,566,861, or 62.3 percent of Austrians, are fully immunized. Among those aged twelve to 24, 52.2 percent are fully immunized; in the 25 to 34 age group, the rate is 60.8 percent, and among those aged 35 to 44, 66.2 percent. Among people ages 45 to 54, 70.3 percent are fully protected against Covid-19, and 78.9 percent in the 55 to 64 group. Those ages 65 to 74 have a full immunization rate of 84 percent, those ages 75 to 84 have 88.8 percent and the 85-plus group has 89 percent.
By province, the vaccination coverage rate (fully immunized) remains highest in Burgenland at 69.7 percent. This is followed by Lower Austria with 65 percent, Styria with 62.9 percent, Vienna with 61.5 percent), Vorarlberg with 61.2 percent, Tyrol with 60.5 percent, Carinthia with 58.8 percent and Salzburg with 58.5 percent. Upper Austria brought up the rear with a vaccination coverage rate of 57.2 percent.
