The topic of Christmas during the Corona crisis is polarizing within Europe. The EU Commission sees this as a particular risk of renewed spread and urges caution. In general, the Brussels authority recommends that the member states do not relax the rules for meetings in the first place. And if they do, then only with strict quarantine conditions for at least seven days before and after, it says. Contacts should always be limited and reduced to the same people during the holidays.

Residential community may not be left
Italy’s government is planning drastic steps. It is considering enforcing the curfew for Christmas and New Year’s Eve as well. This means that Italians will no longer be allowed to leave their homes between 10 pm and 6 am. In order to limit the freedom to travel, according to Italian media reports, an ordinance is also being planned according to which the population will not even be allowed to leave their home community on December 25 and 26 and January 1. The anti-Covid bills are to come into force on Friday and remain in force until 10 January.
