Yesterday, with almost 8,600 new infections, the previous, this year’s highest level was reached. The last time there were more new cases was November 13 of last year, when there were 9,586. Hospitals also have to care for more and more patients. As a result, the traffic light commission has switched the whole of Austria back to red – meaning that there is a very high risk throughout the country. The federal and state governments are meeting tonight for a crisis summit.
From Thursday to Friday, yesterday’s peak was again clearly exceeded with 9,388 registered new Corona infections. This is well above the previous seven-day average of 6,599, and the seven-day incidence is currently 518.98.
In addition, there are 32 new deaths related to Covid-19 infection to report, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 11,451 so far. The number of active cases rises to 62,659.
In the past 24 hours, 240,202 PCR tests have been performed, with a positive rate of 3.91 percent.
Hospitals are treating 1,831 patients, up five from yesterday. There are 356 patients in intensive care units. This number increased by four since yesterday and has increased by 76 patients in one week.
