Around the blackout exercise on Friday, many false reports about power cuts are circulating. Now the government is clarifying what is really happening.
The risk of widespread and prolonged power outages is set to increase in the future. Just earlier this year, Europe narrowly escaped such a blackout. In order to be able to react properly in such a crisis, the government, police, army and energy suppliers are rehearsing the emergency this week.
On Friday, November 12, 2021, the blackout exercise “ENERGIE.21” will therefore take place on the initiative of the province of Tyrol. This is causing uncertainty throughout the country in the run-up to the event, with numerous false reports doing the rounds on social networks.
Now the Ministry of the Interior is responding to the frightening rumors: “Contrary to circulating false reports, there will be no unannounced power cuts during the ENERGIE.21 blackout exercise on November 12,” Ministry of Interior said. All owners of affected properties who are involved in the exercise have been informed in advance.
In addition to all the provinces, the ministries of the interior, energy and environmental protection, digitization and national defense, as well as Austrian Power Grid and E-Control are involved.
Coordination and coordination between the federal government and the provinces takes place within the framework of the State Crisis and Disaster Management (SKKM), which is located in the Ministry of the Interior.
