Today, Monday, Austria’s first vaccination street for children between the ages of five and eleven goes into operation at the Austria Center Vienna in Vienna. The opening will be performed by Mayor Michael Ludwig and City Health Councillor Peter Hacker.

The demand for appointments is very large: With Sunday, as of 17.00 clock, there were 9,216 bookings, 184 appointments were (until the end of the year) still free. If necessary, however, the contingent will be increased, the city had already announced.

The children are injected with a reduced amount of the vaccine from BioNTech/Pfizer. The exact dose is decided by the doctor on the spot. It depends on the physical condition and body weight of the vaccinee. Officially, there is still no official approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the Corona vaccine under the age of twelve. Therefore, younger kids can only be vaccinated “off label” in Austria. Interested parents have to find a doctor to perform the vaccination on their offspring. Vienna has decided to take the step of setting up a vaccination route for younger children, as there is very good international data on this and in order to simplify the procedure for parents who want to have their children vaccinated.
