10,363 new infections and 61 deaths in 24 hours

There have been exactly 10,363 new infections in Austria in the past 24 hours. In addition, authorities reported 61 more deaths since Monday – the highest figure in nine months. Of those, 22 infected people died in Upper Austria alone. 113 more Covid 19 patients have had to be admitted to hospitals since Monday. Thus, 2,568 infected persons are already in hospital, 458 seriously ill in intensive care units.

In the case of particularly severe cases, 17 patients have been added since Monday, and 55 within the past week. A total of 416 infected patients have been added to the hospital population since last Monday, which represents an increase of 16.2 percent. The situation was particularly dramatic in Salzburg, in the regional hospitals threatens the complete overload, it was already nominated a triage team. Five physicians and a lawyer are to decide then, which patients can still be treated intensively. In Salzburg, 31 seriously ill patients required intensive medical care on Tuesday, nine more than on Monday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there had only once been more, on April 29, there had been 32 intensive care patients.

The number of confirmed people actively infected with the virus rose Tuesday to already 119,171, with a seven-day incidence of 919.4. The 10,363 new infections are below the seven-day average of already 11,732 new cases daily. In one week, 82,127 people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Last week, 253 people died from infection across Austria. More deaths than today were last reported by the Interior and Health Ministries on February 2 (69). In AGES statistics adjusted for the actual date of death (rather than the date deaths were reported), the last time there were more Corona deaths was January 4 (64). Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 11,807 lives in Austria since the outbreak. Per 100,000 population, 132.2 people have died as a result of Covid 19 infection.

There have been 981,904 confirmed cases in Austria since the pandemic began. A total of 850,926 people are considered recovered. Upper Austria again reported the most new infections since Monday with 2,559. Lower Austria added 1,882 new cases, Tyrol 1,589 and Vienna 1,230. Styria recorded 988 more infected people, Salzburg 671, Vorarlberg 626, Carinthia 529 and Burgenland 289.

On Monday, 58,797 vaccinations were administered across Austria. Of these, the majority, 38,028, were third doses, 7,962 were second doses and 12,807 people received their first dose. Exactly 5,839,643 people have an active vaccination certificate, or 65.37 percent of the total population.

A total of 722,050 PCR and antigen rapid tests were enrolled in the past 24 hours. Of these, 342,569 were meaningful PCR tests, of which three percent were positive.
