Day 3 in the lockdown designed to curb the escalated infection situation. As of today, 15,365 Corona cases have been reported.

The lockdown week began Monday with 13,806 new infections nationwide, and Tuesday saw the first significant decline with 9,513 positives. But the numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, because for days there have been problems with reporting PCR test results. Due to the massive rush, the systems are collapsing.

As of today, Wednesday, November 24, 2021, authorities have reported 15,365 new Corona infections and 66 deaths. A week ago, on November 17, there had been 14,416 new infections.

The health care system is already “working to capacity”, yet more and more Corona patients are being admitted to local hospitals every day. In the past 24 hours alone, 66 additional beds in normal wards nationwide have been assigned to Covid 19 sufferers. In total, 2,634 people are receiving medical treatment here.

The situation is even more precarious in intensive care units. As of today, a total of 578 intensive care beds are occupied by Corona patients. That is 1 more than the day before. According to AGES data, this means that more than a quarter of all available intensive care beds in Austria are already occupied by corona patients. The system-critical utilization limit of 33 percent is 600 beds, and triages are imminent.
