December 1 is a significant date with regard to the vignette: the adhesive vignette and the Digital Vignette 2022 (taking into account compliance with the consumer protection period) are valid from that day, according to an ASFINAG release.
Digital Vignette
The adhesive vignette (in apricot) has already been available since November 18 in thousands of sales outlets in Austria and abroad, while the digital vignette is available in the ASFINAG toll store at www.asfinag.at and via the “Unterwegs” app.
Validity period of vignette
The validity period of the annual vignette is a maximum of 14 months. With the 2022 vignette, you can therefore travel on freeways and expressways until January 31, 2023. “Contactless ordering and payment is an essential aspect of the Digital Vignette, especially in times of lockdown and COVID pandemic. In addition, it offers numerous advantages such as, among other things, the possibility of a subscription,” Claudia Eder, ASFINAG’s managing director, is quoted as saying in the release.

Vignettes purchased via the Internet cannot be used immediately: “The reason for this lies in the consumer protection period for online purchases. Because: According to the European Directive for Consumer Protection, customers can withdraw from the online purchase of a product or service – the Digital Vignette is therefore only valid 18 days after purchase.”
In accordance with legal requirements, vignette tariffs are adjusted annually to the harmonized consumer price index (HICP) and increased by 1.4 percent for 2022. Thus, the annual vignette for passenger cars will cost 93.80 euros and the one for motorcycles 37.20 euros.
