The number of daily new infections continues to decline sharply. However, intensive care units saw a new high for 2021 on Monday.
A hard lockdown has been in effect again in Austria for exactly two weeks. Infection figures are on the decline. The Corona figures were not published until shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday after problems with the Epidemiological Reporting System (EMS).
From Sunday to Monday, there were 4,625 new infections in Austria. Today’s new infections continue to be below the average of the past seven days. It also brings the number of active cases down further to 103,126. 267,328 new PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours. This results in a positive rate of 2.25 percent. The seven-day incidence rate decreased to 574.2.
There are also 48 new deaths associated with Covid-19 infection to report. Thus, the pandemic has claimed 12,844 lives in Austria so far.
Peak in intensive care units in 2021
There was a new high in intensive care units for the year 2021. 661 critically ill patients had to be cared for at the beginning of the week. More were previously only in the second wave a year ago. As of Nov. 25, 2020, 709 Covid 19 patients had been cared for in ICUs.
Also up again Monday was the total number of infected people treated in the hospital. 3,107 people need treatment with Covid 19 disease, up by 78 from the previous day.
