The number of positive PCR tests at schools continued to decline last week. According to data from the Ministry of Education and the City of Vienna, 3,089 tests were successful in the week from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3 (week before: 4,022) – and this despite the fact that, after Vienna, Lower and Upper Austria also tested twice instead of once with the more meaningful PCR test for the first time. Of the ministry’s 917,000 “Everything Flushes” tests, 0.19 percent were positive (week before: 0.39).

Number of class closures also down
The number of school or class closures is also decreasing, with six schools currently closed, plus 356 classes. In the week of November 22-26, there were still 22 schools or 751 classes.

Specifically, in the previous week in Vienna, 221 elementary school students received a positive test result in the two rounds of “Alles spült.” Older students using the City of Vienna’s “Alles gurgelt” program had 1,314 positive results, plus 81 positive tests among school staff. In total, 1,535 pupils were positive (week before: 1,602).

In Upper Austria, 460 cases were detected in the two rounds of PCR testing in the previous week, compared to 642 in the week before with only one test. In Lower Austria, there were almost as many positive cases in two rounds of testing as in the previous week with one PCR test (331 and 330, respectively).

There was a significant decrease with one PCR test in Styria to 265 (week before: 439), in Tyrol the number dropped to 155 (319), in Carinthia to 104 (239) and in Salzburg to 68 (152). The numbers hardly changed in Vorarlberg (previous week: 109, week before: 116) and Burgenland (42 and 48, respectively).
