Vienna – Different regulations will apply in the provinces after the lockdown ends for vaccinated and recovered people as of December 12. Burgenland, Tyrol and Vorarlberg will open all permitted areas from Sunday. Lower Austria, Salzburg and Styria will not open restaurants and hotels until December 17, Vienna not until December 20. Upper Austria will probably remain in lockdown until December 17, Carinthia will decide first.

2G applies almost everywhere
The federal government specifies “minimum standards” that apply throughout Austria. The federal states have the option of being stricter. In principle, the lockdown ends for all vaccinated and recovered people in the night from Saturday to Sunday (December 11/12). For the unvaccinated, the lockdown will continue indefinitely. With the guidelines, it is possible to reopen almost all areas after the end of the lockdown – from retail (apart from the basic suppliers who are open during the lockdown anyway) to personal service providers (such as hairdressers), gastronomy, tourism, and cultural, leisure and sports areas. Night catering and après-ski venues must remain closed in any case. In addition, protective measures are prescribed, such as a comprehensive FFP2 mask obligation in closed rooms. All areas (apart from the basic catering facilities) can only be entered with a 2G certificate. Catering establishments generally have an 11 p.m. curfew. According to federal guidelines, cultural institutions can once again welcome up to 2,000 guests indoors, and up to 4,000 guests outdoors (in each case with assigned seating).

Vienna opens cautiously
In Vienna, all retail will open from Monday. Likewise the body-close service providers as well as also all other ranges permitted by the federation can unlock apart from catering trade and hotel trade. Because restaurants and Co. may open in the Federal Capital only starting from 20 December, likewise the accommodating enterprises. Contrary to what was originally discussed, however, a 2G certificate will then be sufficient, and a 2G-plus rule (with an additional PCR test) will not be introduced. The Viennese Christmas markets are also allowed to open on Monday. At least take-away is to be permitted at the punch and food stalls until the planned gastro opening on 20 December.

Three Lands of the Federal Republic select the middle way
A synchronous procedure selected the countries Lower Austria, Styria and Salzburg. There all ranges in the trade, with the bodynear service providers as well as in the Event and leisure industry can open under the safety regulations prescribed country widely. Gastronomy and lodging establishments here, however, also remain closed longer than the federal government stipulates: Opening is not planned in these three states until December 17.

Procedure in Upper Austria and Carinthia still open
Approximately the situation is still unclear in Upper Austria. “Target date” for the opening is still December 17. Whether then actually open from December 18 and in which areas, is still open and is to be discussed on Thursday.

Immediately open everything possible, it is called in the three countries Burgenland, Tyrol and Vorarlberg. There can open from Sunday or Monday all areas that are allowed according to the federal “minimum standards”. The procedure is still completely open in Carinthia. In the southernmost province, one wants to strive on Thursday about any stricter measures than the federal “lower edge”.
