One day before the official end of the lockdown, the Corona situation in Austria seems to be stabilizing. From Friday to Saturday, 4,460 new infections were registered in Austria. This is significantly fewer new daily cases than at the beginning of the lockdown – 13,806 new infections had been reported on November 22. The newly reported cases are further below the average of 4,610 over the past seven days. In addition, this brings the number of active cases down further to 73,690.
In the past 24 hours, 232,988 new PCR tests were performed. This results in a positive rate of 1.91 percent. The seven-day incidence rate decreased to 362.53.
There are also 67 new deaths associated with Covid-19 infection to report. Thus, the pandemic has claimed 13,143 lives in Austria so far.
573 patients are currently receiving intensive care. This number decreased by 25 since the previous day. A total of 2,557 Covid-19-infected people are in hospitals across Austria, 151 fewer than the previous day.
Vaccinations
110,854 vaccinations were administered Thursday. Of those, 82,899 were third-stage vaccinations, accounting for 74.78 percent of all vaccinations performed. This was higher than the seven-day average of 69,352 third vaccinations. In total, almost half a million – exactly 485,465 – third vaccinations were administered within the past seven days. According to E-vaccine passport data, 6,444,430 people have already received at least one vaccination. 6,076,249 people, or 68 percent of Austrians, have valid vaccination protection.
Of the 110,854 vaccinations on Thursday, 8,416 were first-time shots, or 7.59 percent. This is below the seven-day average of 8,907 first-time vaccinations. A total of 62,347 first-time vaccinations were given within the past seven days.
19,539 vaccinations were second shots. This is above average for the seven-day average (16,980). A total of 118,863 second shots were administered within the past seven days.
